Is Angry Birds Still Available? What You Can Play

Yes, Angry Birds is still available. Rovio has a dozen games on the App Store and still updates most of them, including Angry Birds 2, Angry Birds Friends and Angry Birds Reloaded, all updated in September 2026. What you can’t install any more is the original 2009 app. Its closest replacements are Red’s First Flight, a $0.99 remake on iPhone, and Angry Birds Reloaded on Apple Arcade.

The confusion comes from the series being spread across a dozen listings, several of which have been renamed, moved or retired. Here’s the current state of it.

Rovio’s own games page also lists Angry Birds Dream Blast, Angry Birds Hatchlings and Rovio Classics: Angry Birds.

What happened to the original game? #

The Angry Birds you played in 2010 was pulled from sale. Rovio rebuilt it as Rovio Classics: Angry Birds, published in March 2022, and later renamed that App Store listing to Red’s First Flight, which is why it now shows a 2022 release date for a 2009 game.

Red’s First Flight is the closest thing to the original you can buy today. Its store description promises a “faithful re-make of the original Angry Birds game,” all eight original episodes and more than 390 levels, plus the Mighty Eagle, “No IAPs!” and “No intrusive pop-up ads interrupting gameplay.” It costs $0.99 and its last update was June 2023.

If you’re on Android, check Google Play directly. The classic remake’s availability there has changed more than once, and Rovio still lists Rovio Classics: Angry Birds on its own site, so the safest move is to search the store rather than trust an old link.

The ad-free options #

Two paths avoid ads entirely:

Apple Arcade. Angry Birds Reloaded lives on Apple Arcade, which costs $6.99 a month in the US. Apple states its games have “No ads. No in-app purchases. No interruptions,” and can be played “online or offline.” Reloaded’s own description lists more than 60 episodes and over 2,000 levels, now including Angry Birds Space content, and it’s still updated monthly. Angry Birds Bounce is on Arcade too.

Paying once. Red’s First Flight is $0.99 on iOS with no purchases inside.

Everything else in the series is free with ads and in-app purchases. Angry Birds 2’s own description warns that the game “may include loot boxes or other game mechanics with random rewards.”

Which one should you install? #

  1. You want the original experience: Red’s First Flight on iPhone, or Angry Birds Reloaded if you have Apple Arcade.
  2. You want the best-made current game: Angry Birds 2.
  3. You want to compete: Angry Birds Friends, which adds more than 35 new levels a week and runs head-to-head Star Cup matches.
  4. You want something to finish: none of the free ones, really. They’re live services. A paid or Arcade game, or a game with a fixed campaign, suits that better.
  5. You want no ads and no purchases on Android: this is the gap. There isn’t an Angry Birds game that fits.

If you want the feel without the free-to-play economy #

That last point is the reason a lot of people end up looking for alternatives. Kitty Kaboom is the one we make, so weigh this accordingly: cats instead of birds, robot vacuums instead of pigs, and the same drag-aim-release control with a dotted trajectory preview.

The difference is what happens mid-flight. Six of the seven cats have a power you trigger by tapping the screen while they’re in the air. Boomer explodes, Mochi splits into three kittens, Chonk slams straight down, Yowl shatters every glass block in range and dazes robots, Zippy rocket-dashes over walls, and Gizmo magnetizes metal and pulls robots off perches. There are 60 levels across four worlds, a daily challenge that’s the same level for every player, and three stars go to anyone who clears a level using half their cats or fewer.

It’s free on iPhone and Android with ads, no in-app purchases at all, and no account. Our full comparison of the alternatives, Rovio’s included, is in games like Angry Birds.

Frequently asked questions #

Was Angry Birds removed from the App Store? #

The original app was, and so were several spin-offs over the years. Rovio removed the classic game from sale and replaced it with a rebuilt version, now called Red’s First Flight. More than a dozen other Angry Birds games remain on the store.

Why can’t I find Angry Birds Classic? #

Because it’s no longer published under that name. The remake is sold as Red’s First Flight on the App Store, and Angry Birds Reloaded on Apple Arcade covers the same classic levels.

Is Angry Birds free in 2026? #

Most of the series is free with ads and in-app purchases, including Angry Birds 2, Friends, Journey, Blast, POP!, Evolution, Transformers, Rush and Bad Piggies. Red’s First Flight costs $0.99, and Reloaded and Bounce need an Apple Arcade subscription.

Is Angry Birds still being updated? #

Yes. Angry Birds 2, Friends and Reloaded were all updated in September 2026. Some older titles, like Bad Piggies and Red’s First Flight, haven’t been touched for a year or more.

Who owns Angry Birds now? #

Rovio Entertainment still makes the games, and Rovio’s own about page states that the company is owned by Sega. The series also has a third film listed for December 2026.
